Lost Heritage - #1 and #2

These are just two of the Christchurch Heritage buildings that have suffered massive damage due to the earthquake. They are depicted here in the quirky, whimsical style of LemurKat.

Both pieces measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches and are coloured in with polychromos pencils on sturdy card. Each card will be posted in a clear plastic sleeve.

#1. Christchurch Cathedral

#2. Timeball Station

To "purchase" one of these pieces, you must follow three simple steps:
1. email art4chch@gmail.com with your name and the number of the piece. It will then be "held" for you.
2. Make a donation to the Red Cross Earthquake fund of $10 or more, make sure you put in an email address for your receipt.
3. Send a copy of your receipt email to art4chch@gmail.com along with your postage details.

The piece will then be sent to you by the original artist.

What is this about?

As you know, my home city - Christchurch, has recently suffered massive damage - both to its people, its buildings and its infrastructure. It will be the most expensive natural disaster in NZ history - both in financial and casualties. It has been described as NZ's darkest day.

On friday the 4th March, a new blog will be opening here to help raise some money for my beloved city. It will feature miniature art from various artists around the world, who have dedicated their time and skills to the cause. By making a $10 or more donation to the Red Cross Christchurch fund, you will be able to "buy" these original pieces.

I am an artist myself, and I will be taking Art Card commissions (miniature art pieces measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches) for a $20 donation. These will be posted to you anywhere in the world.

To donate to Christchurch: http://www.redcross.org.nz/donate

If it doesn't say "christchurch earthquake 2011" you can easily choose it from the drop-box.

So how can you help? You can:

1. Donate money and "buy" art

2. Donate art for people to "buy" - email a scan to me lemurkat@gmail.com

3. Spread the word! Post this link on blogs, facebook, forums, anywhere you think people might be interested (but not where it is regarded as spam)

Now - I'm off to make me some art!

(Thanks to ripplesketches for the inspiration - they raised over $10,000 for the Gulf Oil Spoil - let's see if we can beat that!)
